Alcohol evaporates and carries the scent into the air — that is what makes a spray noticeable across a room, and why it fades within hours. An oil does not evaporate that way. It stays near the skin and releases slowly.

Alcohol dries the skin. If perfume has ever stung or itched on your wrists, an oil usually will not.
How much you use
A spray is three or four pumps. An attar is a dab on each pulse point. The bottles look small because they need to be.
